Baraza Resort, Zanzibar Island, Tanzania

Baraza Resort, Zanzibar Island, Tanzania

Zanzibar is an island off the coast of Tanzania and is the perfect spot to wind down from a safari. We had spent two weeks in the bush between three safaris and having the last week spent just chilling out on an island was absolute perfection. Zanzibar is a slow paced and very relaxed island. The phrase “Hakuna Matata” in Swahili means “no worries,” and you definitely won’t have any of them here.

Where to start with Baraza? The word that pops into my head is “magic.” This resort is truly magical. I was more blown away upon arrival at Baraza Resort than I have been anywhere else. My first thought was that I want my house to look exactly like Baraza. The decor is beyond incredible and makes you feel like you are in a dream. Seeing giant vases and lanterns against stark big white walls is such a minimalist’s dream. The decor is a fusion of Arabic, Swahili, and Indian design.

Baraza lies on the southeastern coast of the island of Zanzibar, along the award-winning Bwejuu beach, recently voted by the prestigious top travel magazine, Conde Nast Traveller as one of the top 30 island beaches in the world. Approximately a 50-minute drive from the airport or Stone Town and ten minutes drive from the village of Bwejuu. The Resort is situated on a 240 meter stretch of fine sand beach, with a coral reef facing the beach that runs down the eastern shore of Zanzibar.

The Frangipani Spa in Baraza

The Baraza spa was a slice of heaven. Frangipani spa offers a variety of services from massage and relaxation rooms to swimming and yoga. The spa treatment I had was called “Sultan’s Bath.” For this treatment, you relax for 30 minutes in a bath and then get a full body scrub. After the body scrub, you take a shower and then proceed to your 90-minute massage. The room for the Sultan’s bath was absolutely gorgeous with the bath and shower included right in the room. This would be the perfect massage for couples on honeymoon as there are two massage beds in the room.

The Baraza Experience

The villas at Baraza are exquisite and equipped with everything you could need. The free-standing bathtubs are gorgeous and the rooms are laid out beautifully with their own plunge pools and Sultan’s beds. I had such a nice time lounging on the Sultan’s bed and frolicking around the resort feeling like a princess. The beach at high tide was so gorgeous, with its pure white sand and bath temperature water. When the tide was out, you could walk all the way out to the reef which was such a fun experience.

The watersports center has a selection of Kayaks and also run various other activities for guests.

The food at Baraza was some of the best I’ve had. They pay so much attention to detail and their menus, the restaurants deserve awards for how incredible they are, what variety they have, and how they are able to cater to all dietary needs.

The pool at Baraza is massive and incredible, and all of the staff anticipate every need one could have.

Baraza Resort is hands down one of my most favorite places in the world. The photos and incredible trip advisor reviews don’t even do this stunning beachside resort justice. It is a slice of heaven, a place to feel like a prince/princess, and the perfect post-safari wind-down. Thank you to Sergi, Sree, and your wonderful team and I can’t wait to see you all again soon.
